Hello. This is the personal blog of Eugi Gufo. The page you are currently reading is something of a «user profile», even though the blog is hosted on my personal website.
The easiest and most logical way to contact me is to send an email to eugi@eugigufo.net
Of course, you could also try writing to me via one of the social networks listed on this page—but why make life more complicated?
This blog once lived at eugigufo.livejournal.com. The idea of creating my own standalone site had occurred to me quite some time ago, as far back as 2012: I wanted to free myself from LiveJournal’s technical issues, create a design entirely of my own, enrich my website, and increase advertising revenue. Speaking of my personal site: in its various forms over the years, it has existed since 1999. However, I would never have thought of merging it with the blog had it not been for my chronic jealousy of other people’s knowledge. In fact, after observing a former university acquaintance, I decided to explore the WordPress platform and the PHP language.
Now, almost all of my posts are automatically copied to the old LiveJournal as well, since some readers are used to following me there.
Most likely, however, visitors open this page in order to find answers to two questions: «Who is the author of the blog?» and «What is this blog about?» I will now try to answer them briefly.
Who am I?
On the internet I go by the name Eugi Gufo, and that should be enough to identify me. I will only add that it is an artistic translation of my real name. I was born and raised in Moscow and, unless something extraordinary happens, I will be buried in the same city. I attended a school that in Italy could be classified as a scientific lyceum, with an in-depth focus on chemistry and biology. My subsequent university studies eventually led me to a humanities faculty offering a rather broad range of subjects. In the end, I chose to specialise in international commercial law. I could have devoted this blog to my area of expertise, but I have yet to find a way of discussing legal matters in a language accessible to a non-specialist audience (it is not always as easy as it might seem).
What is this blog about?
The easiest answer would be to direct everyone straight to the posts… However, since my public online life is rather disorganised, I will outline the main topics covered on this blog (see the «categories» in the black column on the right):
Cars — my posts about cars, especially Russian and Soviet ones;
Advice — whenever I learn how to do something new, interesting, and practically useful, I share this knowledge with my much-loved readers;
Italy — posts about Italy: politics and more;
Around the World — posts on international and foreign politics;
Site News — posts about important updates to my website: new content and major technical developments;
Motorcycles — posts about motorcycles, especially Russian and Soviet ones;
Russia — posts about Russian political and social life: in most cases, these are my personal comments or summaries of information that is little known in the West. Russian history and art can also be found in the «Art» and «History» categories;
Urban Planning — my thoughts and observations on the cities I visit, as well as my ideas on how they might be improved;
Travel — descriptions of all the interesting things I see during my personal travels. Full photographic reports are usually published on Thursdays;
Video — according to a tradition that began several years ago, every Sunday afternoon I publish an interesting video that has particularly caught my attention during the week.
Where I have already been (for now, I am not quite sure where to place the map on the site):
