{"id":747,"date":"2026-02-18T14:50:35","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/?page_id=747"},"modified":"2026-02-18T14:50:36","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:50:36","slug":"brembio2018","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/brembio2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Brembio, 1 September 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name=\"fotka1\"><\/a>The impression that Brembio (in&nbsp;the province of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/lodi2010\/\">Lodi<\/a>) is&nbsp;a&nbsp;classic rural village forms even before the visitor reaches the built-up area.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio01.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the road to Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka2\"><\/a>That impression is&nbsp;reinforced by&nbsp;certain road signs.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio02.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka3\"><\/a>And by&nbsp;numerous examples of&nbsp;local period architecture.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio03.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the old center Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka4\"><\/a>For a&nbsp;country village with just over two and a&nbsp;half thousand inhabitants, the local church appears disproportionately large.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio04.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the church of Santa Maria Nascente in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka5\"><\/a>Above all, it&nbsp;is&nbsp;astonishingly beautiful inside. I&nbsp;refrained from taking photographs of&nbsp;the interior due to&nbsp;the presence of&nbsp;worshippers: experience has taught me&nbsp;that residents of&nbsp;small municipalities are not especially tolerant of&nbsp;&laquo;outsiders&raquo; and are hardly accustomed to&nbsp;tourists wielding large cameras. You will therefore have to&nbsp;content yourselves with this exterior fresco.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio05.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the church of Santa Maria Nascente in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka6\"><\/a>The headquarters of&nbsp;the musical band &laquo;F.&nbsp;Cilea&raquo; (founded in&nbsp;1859) resembles&nbsp;&mdash; perhaps justifiably&nbsp;&mdash; another kind of&nbsp;temple: a&nbsp;miniature theatre. It&nbsp;is&nbsp;somewhat surprising to&nbsp;encounter it&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;place of&nbsp;this sort.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio06.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio06a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"the headquarters of the musical band F. Cilea in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka7\"><\/a>The older part of&nbsp;the village consists mainly of&nbsp;simple two-storey buildings, often not preserved in&nbsp;the best condition, yet at&nbsp;least painted in&nbsp;a&nbsp;variety of&nbsp;frequently lively colours.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio07.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the old center of Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka8\"><\/a>There is&nbsp;also a&nbsp;small area of&nbsp;large and relatively attractive private villas, some of&nbsp;which, however, appear to&nbsp;have been abandoned for years (even the &laquo;for sale&raquo; signs have faded somewhat).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio08.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio08a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"private villas in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka9\"><\/a>Certain buildings in&nbsp;the centre are embellished in&nbsp;a&nbsp;rather curious manner.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio09.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka10\"><\/a>Some new private houses, meanwhile, strike me&nbsp;as&nbsp;being built in&nbsp;an&nbsp;American style. Fortunately, unlike their United States counterparts, they are constructed of&nbsp;brick and therefore ought not to&nbsp;fall apart after the first strong wind.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio10.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"villas in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka11\"><\/a>And then there is&nbsp;the outskirts, built in&nbsp;the thoroughly hideous (to&nbsp;my&nbsp;taste) style of&nbsp;the 1970s.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio11.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka12\"><\/a>The largest and best-maintained building in&nbsp;the village is&nbsp;the Town Hall.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio12.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the Town Hall Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka13\"><\/a>The coat of&nbsp;arms of&nbsp;Brembio, widely displayed throughout the village, depicts a&nbsp;castle. I&nbsp;was unable, however, to&nbsp;find any trace of&nbsp;what might remain of&nbsp;it. Let&nbsp;us trust the&nbsp;legend.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio13.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio13a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio13b.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"the coat of arms of Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka14\"><\/a>Instead, I&nbsp;discovered another exceedingly rare historical relic: the premises of&nbsp;a&nbsp;branch of&nbsp;the Communist Refoundation Party. I&nbsp;had not realised the party still existed.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio14.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio14a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Rifondazione Comunista in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka15\"><\/a>Even the entrance to&nbsp;the sports centre echoes the stylistic language of&nbsp;a&nbsp;hundred years ago.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio15.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the sports center in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka16\"><\/a>Yet there is&nbsp;also space for contemporary fashion. I&nbsp;continue not to&nbsp;understand the trend of&nbsp;displaying scooters inside grocery shops and restaurants.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio16.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka17\"><\/a>Among the unquestionably positive tendencies is&nbsp;that of&nbsp;indicating the range of&nbsp;house numbers covered by&nbsp;a&nbsp;given street sign (between two junctions). Thanks to&nbsp;this measure, spatial orientation becomes considerably easier.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio17.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka18\"><\/a>The house-number plaques are often plastic yet three-dimensional. Owing to&nbsp;their originality, they seem far more attractive than metal ones.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio18.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/brembio2018\/brembio18a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"the house-number plaques in Brembio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka19\"><\/a>There&nbsp;&mdash; I&nbsp;have told you everything you need to&nbsp;know about Brembio.
