My&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/pavia2012.04\/\">previous visit<\/a> had been compromised by&nbsp;persistent rain, so&nbsp;this time&nbsp;I took the occasion to&nbsp;verify whether the city might justify a&nbsp;dedicated return.<br \/>\nIt&nbsp;does.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia01.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka2\"><\/a>Pavia remains a&nbsp;handsome city.<br \/>\nIts well-maintained historic centre suggests the quiet prosperity one associates with certain Lombard provinces&nbsp;&mdash; orderly, composed, and economically self-assured.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia02.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka3\"><\/a>It&nbsp;is, however, also a&nbsp;city that appears somewhat uncertain about how to&nbsp;appreciate and repurpose its former industrial areas. These are consequently left to&nbsp;decline with a&nbsp;determination that seems unnecessary.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia03.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka4\"><\/a>Pavia is&nbsp;likewise a&nbsp;place where restoration works are occasionally conducted in&nbsp;a&nbsp;manner that invites reflection.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia04.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka5\"><\/a>Fortunately, smaller historical details still survive and may be&nbsp;examined at&nbsp;close range&nbsp;&mdash; a&nbsp;circumstance for which one should be&nbsp;grateful.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia05.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia05a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka6\"><\/a>In&nbsp;the historic centre, one still encounters the old convex enamel street signs, executed in&nbsp;metal and rendered in&nbsp;two colours. Their continued presence suggests either affection for tradition or&nbsp;a&nbsp;commendable resistance to&nbsp;administrative modernisation.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia06.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka7\"><\/a>New private bicycle racks provide solid protection for the vehicles secured to&nbsp;them and display a&nbsp;pleasingly vivid colour. Practicality and optimism are not always mutually exclusive.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia07.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka8\"><\/a>Pavia&rsquo;s most renowned institution remains its university. Numerous elements of&nbsp;street furniture and urban organisation make clear how central students are to&nbsp;the city&rsquo;s well-being&nbsp;&mdash; economically, socially, and perhaps spiritually.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2015\/pavia08.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Pavia\"><br \/>\nI&nbsp;am no&nbsp;longer a&nbsp;student myself, yet Pavia strikes me&nbsp;as&nbsp;a&nbsp;place worth returning to&nbsp;&mdash; next time, for a&nbsp;more serious and deliberate report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The photographic account of a tourist visit to Pavia on 1 August 2015.
