{"id":688,"date":"2026-02-13T13:17:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/?page_id=688"},"modified":"2026-02-13T13:17:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:17:42","slug":"treviglio2014","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/treviglio2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Treviglio, 26 July 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that I&nbsp;have visited&nbsp;it, I&nbsp;wonder why I&nbsp;had never included the town of&nbsp;Treviglio in&nbsp;my&nbsp;list of&nbsp;places to&nbsp;see in&nbsp;the near future. I&nbsp;had passed through it&nbsp;several times, always limiting myself to&nbsp;thinking, &laquo;It&nbsp;would be&nbsp;nice, one day&#8230;&raquo; In&nbsp;the end, I&nbsp;remembered it&nbsp;on&nbsp;a&nbsp;rainy day in&nbsp;the summer of&nbsp;2014: it&nbsp;is&nbsp;fairly close to&nbsp;Milan, so&nbsp;in&nbsp;the event of&nbsp;encountering bad weather&nbsp;I would not have regretted the time spent travelling too much.<br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka1\"><\/a>The historic centre of&nbsp;Treviglio makes a&nbsp;rather strange impression: it&nbsp;has some beautiful elements, overall it&nbsp;seems reasonably well kept, yet many individual buildings look as&nbsp;though they had been constructed by&nbsp;Chinese builders copying Europe.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio01.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il centro storico di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka2\"><\/a>Right in&nbsp;the centre, one can also see modern buildings erected in&nbsp;the second half of&nbsp;the twentieth century. Here, for example, is&nbsp;the square in&nbsp;front of&nbsp;the Cathedral and one of&nbsp;the nearby streets.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio02.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio02a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"il centro storico di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka3\"><\/a>Those who prefer traditional architectural beauties need not worry: there are plenty of&nbsp;churches to&nbsp;visit.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio03.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio03a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio03b.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"le chiese di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka4\"><\/a>I&nbsp;managed to&nbsp;enter only the local Cathedral, and I&nbsp;can now testify that it&nbsp;deserves to&nbsp;be&nbsp;studied carefully from the inside as&nbsp;well.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio04.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"gli interni del Duomo di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka5\"><\/a>The worst paving that a&nbsp;human mind could ever have conceived is&nbsp;now vertical too!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio05.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"una facciata in ciottoli a Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka6\"><\/a>In&nbsp;some areas, restoration works are in&nbsp;fact merely cosmetic.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio06.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka7\"><\/a>The Teatro Filodrammatici, housed in&nbsp;a&nbsp;beautiful Art Nouveau building dating from&nbsp;1905, does not appear to&nbsp;be&nbsp;operational: the spaces for posters are empty, and through the first-floor windows one can see only chairs left in&nbsp;disorder. Bad, very bad.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio07.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il teatro Filodrammatici di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka8\"><\/a>Throughout the town, even in&nbsp;the very centre, there are numerous large abandoned villas now in&nbsp;poor aesthetic condition. A&nbsp;pity: some of&nbsp;them are beautiful and architecturally interesting. Fortunately, a&nbsp;few are for sale, so&nbsp;there remains at&nbsp;least a&nbsp;slight hope of&nbsp;seeing them brought back to&nbsp;life.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio08.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio08a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio08b.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio08c.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"le ville abbandonate a Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka9\"><\/a>Some of&nbsp;their details deserve close examination.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio09.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio09a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio09b.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka10\"><\/a>At&nbsp;the same time, many new residential buildings are being constructed in&nbsp;the town.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio10.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka11\"><\/a>Another building in&nbsp;an&nbsp;obvious state of&nbsp;abandonment is&nbsp;the old mill&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio11.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio11a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio11b.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"il vecchio mulino di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka12\"><\/a>Or&nbsp;rather, according to&nbsp;a&nbsp;local restaurateur, it&nbsp;is&nbsp;called &laquo;mulina&raquo;, with a&nbsp;final &laquo;a&raquo;. Is&nbsp;that dialect?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio12.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka13\"><\/a>Treviglio, too, has at&nbsp;least one street dedicated in&nbsp;a&nbsp;sensible manner, for a&nbsp;concrete merit rather than for abstract patriotism. So&nbsp;far, the only dedication equally well done that&nbsp;I had encountered was in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/finaleligure2013\/#fotka19\">Finale Ligure<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio13.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka14\"><\/a>Some streets in&nbsp;the historic centre are named after ancient Treviglio families: a&nbsp;pleasant way of&nbsp;preserving local history.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio14.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio14a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka15\"><\/a>Treviglio is&nbsp;the homeland of&nbsp;internal house numbers. I&nbsp;have never seen so&nbsp;many signs of&nbsp;this type in&nbsp;a&nbsp;single town. Essentially, there is&nbsp;at&nbsp;least one in&nbsp;every street.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15b.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15c.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15d.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15e.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio15f.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka16\"><\/a>The monument &laquo;To&nbsp;the Fallen of&nbsp;the Sea&raquo; reminds&nbsp;us that Treviglio is&nbsp;a&nbsp;great naval power.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio16.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il monumento ai caduti del mare a Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka17\"><\/a>This makes far more sense:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio17.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka18\"><\/a>An&nbsp;interesting detail: in&nbsp;the historic centre, the lamp posts have one of&nbsp;their four glass panels coloured. I&nbsp;was unable to&nbsp;verify this personally, but judging from the fixtures&nbsp;I saw in&nbsp;Treviglio, there seem to&nbsp;be&nbsp;areas with yellow, pink and black lights&#8230; and who knows what others&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio18.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio18a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio18b.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka19\"><\/a>Speaking of&nbsp;lamp posts. One of&nbsp;the correct ways to&nbsp;illuminate pedestrian crossings (in&nbsp;order to&nbsp;make them safer at&nbsp;night) is&nbsp;this:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio19.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka20\"><\/a>Advanced-level pedestrians know how to&nbsp;use bike sharing. In&nbsp;Treviglio there are actually two bike-sharing systems. The first is&nbsp;of&nbsp;the old type and resembles the one&nbsp;I saw some time ago in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/lodi2010.05\/#fotka17\">Lodi<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio20.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il vecchio bike sharing di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka21\"><\/a>The second Treviglio bike-sharing scheme is&nbsp;of&nbsp;the modern type, very widespread throughout Lombardy. See, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/brescia2011\/#fotka16\">Brescia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/lecco2012\/#fotka12\">Lecco<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio21.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il bike sharing moderno di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka22\"><\/a>Considering the architectural confusion of&nbsp;the historic centre mentioned above, I&nbsp;would say that these benches placed in&nbsp;front of&nbsp;the Cathedral no&nbsp;longer spoil the town&rsquo;s image.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio22.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka23\"><\/a>But the most original benches are to&nbsp;be&nbsp;found in&nbsp;one of&nbsp;the public parks.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio23.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka24\"><\/a>The most common litter bins in&nbsp;the historic centre may be&nbsp;considered original.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio24.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"il tipico cestino del centro di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka25\"><\/a>But sometimes one encounters the beautiful and rare ones, previously seen only in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/soncino2012\/#fotka15\">Soncino<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/finaleligure2013\/#fotka22\">Finale Ligure<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio25.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka26\"><\/a>Or&nbsp;bins identical to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/salo2014\/#fotka27\">those in&nbsp;Sal&ograve;<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio26.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka27\"><\/a>And finally, the rarest example:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio27.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka28\"><\/a>Another beautiful and useful object, seen in&nbsp;only a&nbsp;single specimen, ought to&nbsp;be&nbsp;widely adopted in&nbsp;cities all over the world. I&nbsp;do not think it&nbsp;would cost much to&nbsp;install it&nbsp;at&nbsp;least in&nbsp;town centres.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio28.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio28a.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka29\"><\/a>Another positive feature: in&nbsp;Treviglio it&nbsp;is&nbsp;fairly easy to&nbsp;come across bins for used batteries and expired medicines.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio29.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka30\"><\/a>At&nbsp;this point it&nbsp;is&nbsp;worth changing the subject. The dispenser of&nbsp;raw milk supplied directly by&nbsp;local farmers is&nbsp;a&nbsp;typical feature of&nbsp;small provincial towns. In&nbsp;the specific case of&nbsp;Treviglio, one litre of&nbsp;milk costs 1&nbsp;euro (0.89 for &laquo;subscribers&raquo;); an&nbsp;empty bottle costs 20&nbsp;cents if&nbsp;plastic and 50&nbsp;if glass. I&nbsp;think it&nbsp;is&nbsp;a&nbsp;good thing.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio30.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio30a.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio30b.jpg', 'https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio30c.jpg']\" border=\"0\" title=\"distributore del latte a Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka31\"><\/a>Yes, in&nbsp;general Treviglio&rsquo;s entrepreneurs are fairly modest. So&nbsp;modest that they have to&nbsp;sell their own factories.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio31.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka32\"><\/a>Is&nbsp;a&nbsp;more banal name for a&nbsp;tobacconist&rsquo;s even possible? Yet this is&nbsp;the first time&nbsp;I have seen a&nbsp;shopkeeper brave enough to&nbsp;apply&nbsp;it.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio32.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka33\"><\/a>Treviglio&rsquo;s political life is&nbsp;more contradictory than the Renzi government: it&nbsp;brings together opposing political forces.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio33.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka34\"><\/a>But this group of&nbsp;flags reminds&nbsp;us: unity is&nbsp;strength. Perhaps. Sometimes.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio34.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka35\"><\/a>Meanwhile, in&nbsp;this town even surveillance cameras have to&nbsp;be&nbsp;protected against theft.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio35.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka36\"><\/a>I&nbsp;have never seen an&nbsp;intercom positioned like this.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio36.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka37\"><\/a>In&nbsp;front of&nbsp;Treviglio railway station we&nbsp;see a&nbsp;fine free car and motorbike park. Another, also free but much larger, is&nbsp;located to&nbsp;the right of&nbsp;the two-storey building. What do&nbsp;I mean with this photograph? I&nbsp;mean: if&nbsp;you want to&nbsp;increase the use of&nbsp;public transport, at&nbsp;least build park-and-ride facilities! A&nbsp;great many people live in&nbsp;extremely inconvenient areas where public transport does not reach at&nbsp;all (or&nbsp;runs only two or&nbsp;three times a&nbsp;day). These people must have the possibility of&nbsp;driving to&nbsp;the nearest station, not all the way to&nbsp;work.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio37.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka38\"><\/a>A&nbsp;similar argument applies to&nbsp;bicycles: if&nbsp;you know where to&nbsp;leave&nbsp;it, use the bike and public transport rather than the car. However, I&nbsp;am not sure how convenient a&nbsp;rack of&nbsp;this type is&nbsp;to&nbsp;use. And above all: do&nbsp;bicycles not get damaged when hung like that?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio38.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka39\"><\/a>Treviglio station is&nbsp;relatively large and functional, but with certain pseudo-antique decorative elements.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio39.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"alla stazione ferroviaria di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka40\"><\/a>One of&nbsp;the dead-end tracks has been reserved for a&nbsp;contemporary artwork entitled &laquo;Financial Crisis&raquo;. Unfortunately, the author is&nbsp;not indicated.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio40.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"alla stazione ferroviaria di Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka41\"><\/a>In&nbsp;front of&nbsp;the station, less than two metres from the exit, we&nbsp;find a&nbsp;fine and modern taxi stand.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio41.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka42\"><\/a>The interurban bus stops, on&nbsp;the other hand, are realised in&nbsp;a&nbsp;minimalist style.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/treviglio2014\/treviglio42.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Treviglio\"><br \/>\nIn&nbsp;conclusion, I&nbsp;can say that Treviglio is&nbsp;a&nbsp;town that may also be&nbsp;of&nbsp;interest from the point of&nbsp;view of&nbsp;a&nbsp;traditionalist tourist. Being small, relatively close to&nbsp;Milan, and well served by&nbsp;trains, it&nbsp;should not prove too demanding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The photographic account of a tourist visit to Treviglio on 26 July 2014.
