{"id":627,"date":"2026-02-12T11:12:49","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/?page_id=627"},"modified":"2026-02-12T11:12:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:12:50","slug":"pavia2012","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/en\/travel\/pavia2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Pavia, 30 April 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name=\"fotka1\"><\/a>At&nbsp;the end of&nbsp;the unlucky visit to&nbsp;Certosa di&nbsp;Pavia, I&nbsp;had planned to&nbsp;devote the rest of&nbsp;the day to&nbsp;exploring the city of&nbsp;Pavia.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia01.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka2\"><\/a>After all, the train takes just 7&nbsp;minutes. Pavia railway station is&nbsp;identical to&nbsp;the one in&nbsp;Lodi; the only minor differences are the colour and the absence of&nbsp;the hideous cornice.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia02.jpg\" title=\"Pavia railway station\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\nBut&nbsp;30 April 2012 seemed determined to&nbsp;become a&nbsp;day of&nbsp;misfortune at&nbsp;all costs: it&nbsp;was raining in&nbsp;Pavia. So&nbsp;I&nbsp;took only a&nbsp;quick walk and snapped a&nbsp;few photos while hiding under various arcades, awnings, etc.<br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka3\"><\/a>Taking advantage of&nbsp;the following photo, let me&nbsp;remind you that everyone who installs air-conditioning units on&nbsp;the fa&ccedil;ades of&nbsp;historic buildings will burn in&nbsp;hell.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia03.jpg\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka4\"><\/a>The centre of&nbsp;Pavia is&nbsp;beautiful: absolutely worth visiting. Even in&nbsp;non-central areas, interesting buildings often pop&nbsp;up.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia04.jpg\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka5\"><\/a>What struck me&nbsp;in&nbsp;particular was the number of&nbsp;churches that have not been restored and are in&nbsp;poor condition. My&nbsp;astonishment reached its peak when&nbsp;I saw this mix of&nbsp;a&nbsp;church, a&nbsp;block of&nbsp;flats and a&nbsp;factory:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia05.jpg\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka6\"><\/a>Some monuments look as&nbsp;if&nbsp;they were made to&nbsp;be&nbsp;displayed in&nbsp;a&nbsp;kitsch living room rather than out in&nbsp;the street.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia06.jpg\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka7\"><\/a>The monument dedicated to&nbsp;the famous university has a&nbsp;very serious appearance.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia07.jpg\" title=\"the old town of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka8\"><\/a>The covered bridge over the river Ticino is&nbsp;an&nbsp;almost identical copy of&nbsp;the bridge built in&nbsp;the 14th century and destroyed after the Second World War. I&nbsp;think it&nbsp;is&nbsp;well known to&nbsp;everyone: today it&nbsp;is&nbsp;one of&nbsp;the city&rsquo;s symbols.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia08.jpg\" class=\"slideshow\" onClick=\"return ['https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia08a.jpg']\" title=\"the bridge over the Ticino River in Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka9\"><\/a>The marketing-obsessed idiots have infiltrated the municipal offices of&nbsp;Pavia as&nbsp;well: having a&nbsp;beautiful bridge in&nbsp;the city is&nbsp;not enough for them. They also want proof that a&nbsp;famous man used to&nbsp;count Pavia&rsquo;s bridges during bouts of&nbsp;insomnia.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia09.jpg\" title=\"an alleged quote by Albert Einstein on the bridge in Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka10\"><\/a>Fortunately, there are also people in&nbsp;the city who understand the importance of&nbsp;restoration work: I&nbsp;saw many construction sites. The workers do&nbsp;not even leave their workplaces for lunch.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia10.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka11\"><\/a>The usual concrete blocks that restrict car access are often decorated with spheres that make them look like plastic ice creams: it&nbsp;is&nbsp;rare to&nbsp;see something so&nbsp;disgusting.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia11.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka12\"><\/a>In&nbsp;general, one can say that Pavia does not lack concrete: they can afford massive installations of&nbsp;this kind.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia12.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka13\"><\/a>But accelerated cementification is&nbsp;diabolically reconciled with environmental protection. Pavia has its own car-sharing system.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia13.jpg\" title=\"the car sharing in Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka14\"><\/a>And also bike sharing, with racks similar to&nbsp;those seen in&nbsp;Brescia.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia14.jpg\" title=\"the bike sharing in Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka15\"><\/a>In&nbsp;busy peripheral streets, cycle paths are protected by&nbsp;low concrete walls.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia15.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka16\"><\/a>Urban bus stops are attractive.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia16.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka17\"><\/a>The sign listing the flags of&nbsp;the mysterious people authorised to&nbsp;park for free reminds me&nbsp;of&nbsp;The Napoleon of&nbsp;Notting Hill by&nbsp;Chesterton (read&nbsp;it!).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia17.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka18\"><\/a>Pavia&rsquo;s litter bins do&nbsp;not have a&nbsp;dominant style. I&nbsp;liked the large ones, even if&nbsp;they are not particularly original.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia18.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka19\"><\/a>Among the smaller bins, however, I&nbsp;would highlight those in&nbsp;the historic centre.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia19.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka20\"><\/a>Shopkeepers in&nbsp;Pavia, like those in&nbsp;Vigevano, do&nbsp;not want people sitting under their shop windows.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia20.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka21\"><\/a>On&nbsp;the walls of&nbsp;many buildings, if&nbsp;one looks carefully, it&nbsp;is&nbsp;possible to&nbsp;notice small signs with content and\/or purposes that are often inexplicable.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia21.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka21\"><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia22.jpg\" title=\"Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n<a name=\"fotka23\"><\/a>According to&nbsp;Pavia grammar, in&nbsp;notices, commas, are, placed, at, random.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eugigufo.net\/travelfoto\/pavia2012.04\/pavia23.jpg\" title=\"an example of punctuation of Pavia\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\nThat&rsquo;s all for now.
